TURN WITH ME TO JER. 17:7-8
THE AMPLIFIED SAYS: "MOST BLESSED MEANS ACCORDING TO WEBSTER'S 1828 EDITION HAPPY, PROSPERROUS IN WORLDLY AFFAIRS; WE ARE ENJOYING SPIRITUAL HAPPINESS AND THE FAVOR OF GOD; we even enjoy heavenly felicity (rather great happiness; blissfulness and appropriately the joys of heaven.)"
He says that our life will be like the a tree placed by the water - our roots will go deep and always be satisfied with cool, clear springs of living water.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SO THIRSTY THAT YOU WOULD ALMOST DO ANYTHING FOR A DRINK OF COOL WATER? HAVE YOU BEEN SO HOT THAT THE COOL WATER FROM THE CUP WAS THE MOST SATISFYING THING YOU HAD EXPERIENCED ALL DAY?
JUST REMEMBER WHAT IT TASTED LIKE. So cool, so refreshing...He says that is the satisfaction of a drink from the clear springs of His living water. He compares it to such satisfaction that we shall never fear when trouble comes. We will be leafy, green capable of withstanding the greatest of storms, if we are truly planted in the right place.
So we know that God is granting us great happiness and contentment when we put our hope and trust in Him. When we rely on Christ as our source we will definitely begin to grow and bear fruit. Remember He says that we will be like a tree planted by the rivers. This tells me that God is my river source.
When I plant myself at His feet, His river flows into me giving me strength and food for the day. When the sun beats down on me or the storms come and blow through me, yet I am sustained because my roots go deep into the source of all. Nothing can blow me over and beat me down because my strength is in the river of life.
I am constantly drawing from Him. When we draw from other sources, we begin to dry up. Because no other source in life can sustain us and cause our roots to go deep. There is no life source or water for our roots in anything but Christ. We can for a time survive on what feels good, looks good but ultimately, we will dry up with the life-giving source, Jesus Christ.
Let's look at Jer. 17 again but I want to call your attention to verses 5-6. What does it say here that will happen when we trust in man as our source instead of God. He uses the word cursed. This is not a nice, sweet pat on the back kind of word. This word has strength to it but not in the way that we would probably expect. Cursed actually means to be tormented, afflicted, and blasted by the curse.
When we put our hope in man rather than God, we will definitely walk in great disappointment and as the word states, we will be tormented, afflicted and blasted somewhere and at some time in our life. As we trust man more than God, we eventually become like a shrub in a desolate land where there is no water.
We become parched and lifeless. Our Spiritual life begins to dry up. We wonder why we are depressed, oppressed. Why does it seem as though so many things are going wrong. Why can't I get a handle on my life? Why do I feel like I want to quit? Why should I go on? Because there is no pure water line from man. Man's well will always have the pollution of the first Adam. God's life line is pure, undefiled and satisfying. Remember the Father says that we are most blessed when we put our hope in him.
Remember that blessed means happy, prosperous in worldly affairs spiritual happiness and the favor of God. We even enjoy heavenly felicity which is great happiness, blissfulness and the joys of heaven.
I like to think that the very storm that tried to put fear in our hearts now is used to rock us to sleep. In other words, when the storms of life begin to blow, what used to agitate us now merely rocks us to sleep because we know who is steering our ship.
We begin to walk in that great place of peace. Remember, we have talked about this so many times. Peace is the garrison over our heart that the enemy cannot invade. It is this peace that causes others to notice. It a stormy world, we are quietly gazing upon Him, the river source of our life.
Tonight, I invite you to put your hope and trust in the purest source of all - the ONE!! Jesus Christ is the answer to your cancer. Jesus Christ is the source for your remorse. Jesus Christ is your hope when you are on dope. Jesus Christ is your Father when no one else will bother.
Jesus Christ is your lover when you need a mother. In other words, Jesus is everything that you need right now. Will you surrender your heart to Him, right now. Don't wait until tomorrow. Right now.
